Introduction to AI

Understand AI without the hype. What artificial intelligence really is, how a machine learns from data, what an LLM, a token and RAG are, why AI sometimes makes things up, and where it stands today — explained with everyday examples, no code and no maths. Free.

Before you start — quick answers

The course is free: every lesson, the module quizzes and the final exam. You need an account, but no card. The paid part is the HTK AI Lab — four hands-on challenges in the browser — which is a 24 € unlock, once.

No. The theory has no code and no formulas: everything is explained with everyday examples. The optional Pro lab uses a little Python, but each challenge comes almost written and explains what to do line by line.

It is an AI course for everyone, written by a cybersecurity academy. That shows in the last module: privacy, deepfakes, prompt injection and how attackers and defenders use AI — things generic AI courses usually skip.

Not yet. Right now it is written lessons with diagrams, quizzes and a final exam. Videos will be added as they are recorded.

Each phase maps to a module in this course. Scroll to see how the curriculum builds, module by module.

1

Module 1

Introductory

What AI is

  • •AI, machine learning and deep learning: the nesting dolls
  • •From Turing to ChatGPT: 70 years in 10 minutes
  • •Narrow AI, general AI and what AI is not
  • •Module quiz
2

Module 2

Introductory

How a machine learns

  • •Learning means finding patterns in data
  • •Training and using a model: two very different moments
  • •Neural networks without a single formula
  • •Bias comes from the data
  • •Module quiz
3

Module 3

Introductory

LLMs and generative AI

  • •What an LLM is: the world's biggest autocomplete
  • •Tokens: the pieces an AI speaks in
  • •The context window: working memory
  • •Hallucinations: when AI makes it up with confidence
  • •How to ask: prompts that work
  • •Module quiz
4

Module 4

Introductory

RAG and agents

  • •Why an LLM knows nothing about your company
  • •Embeddings: searching by meaning, not by words
  • •RAG step by step: index, retrieve, generate
  • •Agents: when AI stops just talking
  • •Module quiz
5

Module 5

Introductory

AI today

  • •Today's landscape: who's who in AI
  • •Infrastructure: GPUs, data centres and energy
  • •Privacy and responsible use
  • •Prompt injection and AI in cybersecurity
  • •Pro: the HTK AI Lab, build a mini-RAG
  • •Final exam

What you will learn

  • Explain the difference between AI, machine learning and deep learning
  • Understand how a model learns from data and why it inherits its biases
  • Know what an LLM, a token and the context window are, and why models hallucinate
  • Write prompts that get useful answers
  • Explain how RAG and embeddings let an AI answer with your own documents
  • Recognise the security risks of AI, from data leaks to prompt injection

Hands-on Lab

Every module ends with a short quiz and the course closes with a final exam. The Pro unlock adds the HTK AI Lab: four challenges you solve in the browser, where you build in miniature a tokenizer, cosine similarity between embeddings, the retrieval step of a RAG and a prompt-injection detector. No previous Python needed: each challenge comes almost written.

What's free, and what the 24 € unlock adds

Said plainly here so nothing surprises you halfway through the course.

Free, with an account

  • ✓Every lesson and module in writing, plus the first video of each module
  • ✓Per-module exams, with unlimited retries
  • ✓The guided analysis walkthroughs
  • ✓You can submit the final assignment

Pro unlock

24 €
  • +The HTK AI Lab: four challenges in the browser where you build a tokenizer, cosine similarity, the retrieval step of a RAG and a prompt-injection detector
  • +Automatic tests that check your code in each challenge
  • +Every video lesson of the course as soon as it is recorded
  • +The HTK certificate, which requires completing every lesson, the AI Lab included

One payment, no subscription. The unlock is per free course: this one covers this course only, so you pay for the course you are actually taking. And if you later buy any paid HTK course — Beginner (119 €), Intermediate (159 €) or a complete Learning Path (199 €) — all five unlocks come included, one for each free course: 120 € of value at no extra cost. You never pay twice for the same thing.
